Pride

In 2022 June is now synonymous with Pride month. A month to recognize and celebrate those part of the LGBT+ community. According to the Library of Congress, it’s in June to honor the Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan in 1969. The event, simplified, was a clash between New York Police Officers and LGBTQ+ that began at a popular gay bar in New York City, Stonewall Inn. During this time homosexuality was still considered to be a criminal offense. Read more about the events here.

These days Pride covers a variety of events such as parades, drag shows, live music, and more. Here in Maine, Hallowell already had their Pride Parade, and the largest in the state, Portland, is being held on Saturday, June 18th.
