Popular Taste of Maine Restaurant in Woolwich Sets Opening Date for 45th Season
Today I was really craving seafood. My mouth was watering thinking of a nice, big plate of fried shrimp and scallops with a side of cole slaw and a roll. Or better yet, a giant lobster roll with big chunks of lobster meat covered in mayo. It totally makes me think of summer right in the dead of winter.
Then I came across a post from the Taste of Maine Restaurant that got me even more excited about seafood.
If you've been in Maine for a long time, or all your life like me, you can't say "The Taste of Maine Restaurant" without following it by saying "Route 1 in Woolwich, just north of Bath," in your best Maine Downeast accent.
That was the famous slogan used in their commercials in the 1980s and 90s that were spoken by the fisherman on their sign.
The fisherman was voiced by Maine author, storyteller, and radio host John McDonald who sadly passed away in December at the age of 78. I always remember this commercial and John's voice whenever I see The Taste of Maine sign.
This long-time favorite of Mainers and tourists alike will be starting its 45th year on Route 1 in Woolwich, just north of Bath with an opening day planned for April 6.
Just look at the size of that lobster roll! I almost think I could plow through that baby all on my own.
Not only are the lobster rolls big, but there's also the big lobster that goes up each season on the roof of the restaurant.
It sure feels like summer now!
