A hearty congratulations goes out to the city of Portland, which has been named a wonderful fall destination. The list, compiled by the popular website Thrillist, features the 12 best places to visit during the fall season. These include some of the most iconic and beloved spots in America—so seeing Portland make the cut is something special.

Portland was highlighted for several reasons: fewer tourists (making shopping more enjoyable), charming cobblestone streets, fresh lobster, other outstanding food and fall festivals, and its general beauty. In other words, all the things you'd expect.

Honestly, it’s no surprise to see Portland included on such a prestigious list. Fall in Maine is unlike anywhere else. Crisp mornings, mild afternoons, and cool nights create the perfect level of comfort. Not to mention—it’s officially sweatshirt weather, which is basically the Mainer uniform. Experiencing this perfect season in Maine’s perfect big city? That’s pretty special.

Portland, Maine, is Easy to Fall in Love With, Especially During the Fall Season

Who wouldn't want to be in Portland this time of year? Think of all the incredible restaurants using fresh, local fall ingredients. Or the festivals and fairs happening right in town, or just a short drive away. Sure, it's still technically tourist season, but nothing like the summer crowds.
