Another Portland, Maine, Favorite Is Closing: Gross Bakery Has Ended its Run
It's the end of the road for a Portland spot that has been serving up serious decadence for nearly a decade.
Gross Bakery in Portland, Maine, is Closing its Doors for Good
Gross Bakery announced its closing on its social media, following an epic run for the delicious establishment that originally opened its doors in 2019.
The bakery was an absolute gem in a town that certainly has plenty of wonderful options. From incredible takes on the classics to elevated creative dishes that would blow away your taste buds, Gross truly brought the flavor… and a lot of everything seasoning.
Gross Bakery was the second of two entities that operated at the corner of Middle and Exchange Street. The other was Gross Confection Bar, a joint that specialized in sweet treats and creative cocktails. It was the perfect spot to hit after dinner when you wanted that extra something.
However, the confection bar preceded the bakery in closing its doors back in early February of this year. The plan was for Gross to focus on the bakery. Unfortunately, that side of the business is now shuttering as well.
It's always a punch in the gut to see a favorite spot close, especially one that provided the community with such a unique and tasty touch.
Gross Bakery was a Fixture in Portland's Old Port
I'll never forget the first time my wife and I found it. Honestly, I didn't even realize the bakery existed until walking by it one morning. I had been to Gross for dessert and was blown away, so I just knew the bakery was going to be a hit. And boy, was I right. Sausage rolls, everything-seasoning croissants, cheese-filled pastries, and tasty lattes left us in absolute awe.
While this is the end of Gross, I can't imagine it will be the last time we hear from the man behind it, Brant Dadaleares. I'm sure there is plenty more success coming his way in the future. Heck, he has an open invitation to make me everything-seasoned croissants anytime. It's honestly the best pastry I have ever had.
So long to Gross Bakery and the dessert bar. Portland was lucky.
