49 Pizza Places That Prove Portland, Maine Is a Pizza Lover’s Paradise
Few things (really nothing) in life compare to the simple joy of biting into a great slice of pizza. Crispy crust, gooey cheese, savory toppings, and tasty sauce. It's comfort food at its absolute best.
Even better, pizza fits just about every occasion. Watching the big game? Order a pizza. Hosting a party? Pizza. Celebrating a milestone? Ummm, pizza. Honestly, there are very few situations that aren't made better with a hot, fresh slice.
What Makes Pizza So Unique?
Pizza is also extremely versatile. While people will always get behind the style they love, there's no "best" way, because every way is the best way. Whether you've got thin crust, thick crust, Detroit style, cracker-thin, Greek style, bar pizza, bagel pizza, pizza rolls, that weird fried chicken pizza from KFC, even on English muffins, nothing beats some dough, a little sauce, cheese, and toppings.

With such a pizza addiction, it’s good to know I have so many options around. We Mainers are also lucky enough to have local chains, House of Pizza locations, and legendary mom-and-pop shops across the state. For such a small state, the variety is impressive.
Due to my obsession with pizza, I was curious to see exactly how large the variety is in Maine’s largest city, Portland.

Both Mainers and tourists have a tremendous number of options to choose from in Portland alone. This includes many new spots that have opened up over the past year.
