Maine’s Ultimate Concert Wishlist: Bands That Should Play Portland’s Thompson’s Point
Hey, it’s 2026, which means one thing: it’s time to look ahead to this year’s rock concert schedule.
If you’re like me, then you’re already refreshing your favorite bands’ websites, just dying for touring information to drop. Heck, I should probably open a special savings account just for the money that will be used to buy the countless tickets in my future.
Thankfully, we’re lucky here in Maine because we have some pretty sweet venues to check out concerts. These can be found all around the state, but there’s no doubt my favorite is right here in Portland and right on the water. The venue in question is Thompson’s Point.
Thompson's Point in Portland is One of Maine's Finest Venues
Located just outside Portland’s vibrant Downtown District, Thompson’s Point was a long-forgotten industrial complex until about 15 years ago. That’s when developers decided it would be a perfect spot to become Portland’s next great entertainment center.
What followed was an amazing redevelopment project that brought breweries, distilleries, restaurants, museums, local craftsmen, green space, an ice rink, a circus gym, and a large stage to the area. While some of these have come and gone, the stage, along with its summer concert series, continues to be a huge hit.
Since 2015, numerous major acts have taken the stage at Thompson’s Point. From legends like Bob Dylan, Mavis Staples, and Phil Lesh to local favorites like The Ghosts of Paul Revere, the venue has hosted a true smörgåsbord of talent.
The music is also incredibly diverse. There is truly something for everyone at the Point. Genres like rock, hip hop, house, folk, country, reggae, and jazz can all be found at this amazing outdoor venue. There’s no music discrimination here.
Portland's Thompson's Point is One of the Most Beautiful Venues in Maine
Another amazing thing about Thompson’s Point is the venue itself. You get sunsets, food trucks, short beer lines, and easy access to bathrooms, all key ingredients for a great concert experience. Even if it rains, there’s a large open-air shelter where you can hide from the storm. It really is close to perfect.
As we gear up for the 2026 concert season, I thought it would be fun to put together a list of bands that could possibly be in future plans, artists I think would be a great fit for Thompson’s Point.

NOTE: I have zero inside knowledge about who might be playing at the Point in 2026 or beyond. This is just a fun list of bands that I think would be a great match. I also tried to keep the choices as realistic as possible. Taylor Swift and the Rolling Stones aren’t walking through that door. Anyway, you can check out the list below.
