Portland Sea Dogs to Become Maine Whoopie Pies Again
After becoming a big success in 2019, the Portland Sea Dogs are once again going to change their names to the Maine Whoopie Pies for one day only.
This is the first of two name changes planned for the Sea dogs in the 2022 season, the second being the Maine Red Snappers, planned for Friday, July 1 when they take on the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Check out that logo.
That's one mean looking snapper, but the hat and the can of Maine's official beverage are on point.
And this is one mean looking dog, but we know that Slugger, is anything but mean. He's sporting the Maine Whoopie Pies uniform with the Whoopie Pies mascot about to swing for the fences.
The change to the Whoopie Pies is all in celebration of Maine's official State treat, and they've teams up with Wicked Whoopies and the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival to make it happen. There will of course be plenty of whoopie pies to eat.
The first time the Sea Dogs did this, it got national attention during ESPN's Sports Center with a very bad Maine accent from host Matt Barrie. Nice try Matt.
If you want to go see the Maine Whoopies Pies take on the Hartford Yard Goats, get your tickets now for the game on Friday, June 10 at 6 p.m. at Hadlock Field. Whoopie Pies vs Yard Goats huh? Don't goats eat just about anything? Fingers crossed for a win and that the Yard Goats don't devour the Whoopie Pies.
