If you've been agonizing over the separation of families along the US border,  but aren't sure exactly how to help, you're not alone. For the second year in a row, The Portland Yard Sale has the perfect solution.

It's a one-day, family-friendly market and silent auction where all of the proceeds will go towards reuniting families who have been separated at the border.

Specifically, the fund raiser benefits the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services, or RAICES, in Texas.

The Portland Yard Sale takes place this Sunday, September 15th, 2019, at The Maine Girls’ Academy on Stevens Ave in Portland. The family-friendly activities and wealth of exciting items for purchase will be available 11a - 3p.

This one-day market is the opposite of your run-of-the-mill garage sale collection drawn from the depths of your moist basement. Items come from local shops and businesses, supported by Mainers to send help to kids and families who need someone to fight for them.

The whole thing is a very local, mom-and-pop effort, with a very small group of people working to make it happen.

However, their collection exceeds what you might expect from a teeny operation. @PortlandYardSale on Instagram and Facebook has been teasing some impressive grabs like local restaurant gift cards, wellness training, home goods, even a lobster boat tour coupled with a lobster dinner.

If you can't make it to the Maine Girls' Academy on Sunday, no worries -- you can still donate through their website and do your part to help families on the southern border.
