The Oldest Race in Maine Kicks Off the Spring Race Season on Saturday

The weather looks great for one of the oldest races in New England...now even bigger and better! The Patriots Day Race for the Kids coming up this Saturday. This is the 88th annual race. Only the Boston Marathon is older! The race is put on by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Maine Alumni Association.

There are literally hundreds of road races all over Maine. Here's a full list . After a gloomy March, runners from all over Maine are excited to get out and finally RUN! Check out the new course. Actually new COURSES. This is a great, low-pressure race if you are a new or novice runner. Maybe this will be your first race (start with the 5k btw). GOOD LUCK!

THE 5 MILER:

The race has always been a 5-miler. This year, there's a 5-milers AND a 5k. Start line for both races is at the Portland Company and Finish Line for both races is at the Portland Boys and Girls Club on Cumberland Avenue.

THE 5K COURSE:

Race shirts are given to the first 300 registered runners (for either course). Register now!  In the 5-miler the first male runner to beat a time of 23:30 and/or first female runner to beat a time of 27:50 wins $1,000. All proceeds go to deserving high school seniors associated with Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine. Race for the kids!
