What is driving distance for a day trip? As someone who does not mind driving, I would say four (plus) hours. Others would call me crazy.

Most would agree around two to three is hours reasonable for a day trip with the kids. Well, if two to three is your range, let me plan this weekend's activity for you.

This is Thomas the Tank Engine. You know that. If do not know that, your kids know that.

Thomas the Tank Engine leaves out of the Essex Station in Essex, CT, and it's all a part of the "Dream Big Tour," according to the Essex Steam Train website.

The ride on Thomas the Tank Engine is only 25 minutes; however, the entire experience and memories are  much longer.

After meeting Thomas, guests will also have the opportunity to meet Sir Topham Hatt, the Controller of the Railway on the Island of Sodor, and Percy the Small Green Engine, according to the website.

You are strongly recommended to purchase tickets in advance, as this fun experience is popular. Ticket are available for purchase here.

There are certain times the trains depart, every 45 minutes, so be sure to plan your day accordingly.

"Included in your ticket price ($26), you and your little ones have access to unlimited rides on 5 carnival rides, music & magic show, and Thomas the Tank Engine play areas," according to the website.

Road trips are some of my most found memories as a kid. Whether it was two hours north to Story Land, or many hours to Sesame Street in PA, my parents always loaded us up for early morning adventures.

If your child likes Thomas the Tank Engine, this is a must do event only available this upcoming weekend: June 4 & 5.
