Scams Mainers Should Look Out For At Tax Time
According to CNN Money, tax time is a minefield of scams. Here are some scams being used this year and red flags to recognize.
- That old acorn the phone scam is still going strong. Why?, because people keep falling for them! the I.R.S. will never call you at home or text you asking you for cash or bank information.
- Fake charities come out of the woodwork too, a lot of them have names very similar to legit charities. Find out if a charity is above board by asking for their Employer Identification Number and entering it into the IRS website.
- Email phishers will ask you to click on a link and give up personal info like your social security number and banking information.
- Once a scammer has some of your info they can use it to steal your identity and claim your refund before you do.
