Smiling Hill Farm Hit by Lightning, Could Lose 2,000 Gallons of Milk
A lightning strike from this past Tuesday's storm has damaged some key equipment at Smiling Hill Farm in Westbrook and they could lose 2,000 gallons of milk, according to an article in USNews.com.
They say the strike damaged controls to monitor pasteurization which is required by the federal government.
It could be days before the replacement equipment arrives, and even then the equipment needs to pass an inspection before they can begin to process milk again.
Family member Warrant Knight says they will probably need to get rid of 2,000 gallons or more of milk as it has to be pasteurized within 72 hours.
