There's little debate that there are many Maine-isms when it comes to food here in Vacationland. But there is no more divisive food topping than ground beef. Across the state, at corner stores and truck stops, as well as bigger pizza eateries, the debate rages on...what do you call a pizza topped with ground beef?

The topic was revisited in a post on Reddit by Iroh_king_of_pop, in which they detail a night out where the poster and sister (native to Maine) debated their spouses (out-of-staters) on the topic of pizza:

"The most divisive was what to call a pizza with a ground beef topping. Hamburg pizza or Hamburger Pizza. The divide came down strictly on Maine born and raised, Hamburg Pizza, all of the Spouses Hamburger pizza. It got heated enough that we polled the waitress who sided with the Mainers"

As far as our experience in Maine, a pizza with ground beef and traditional red sauce with any other toppings you may want to add (like the green peppers in the photo above) is referred to as a hamburg pizza. If you get a pizza that includes ketchup, mustard, and pickles, then it becomes a hamburger (or cheeseburger) pizza.

So where do you stand? And should we get pizza for dinner?
