We've all heard the stories and seen the pictures of how drivers at the Auburn Walmart have found a way to continuously drive into a concrete pole in the parking lot and the pole always winning. Their vehicle gets damaged, costing lots of money in repairs and the drivers, without fail, say "I never even saw it!"

The poles were originally yellow and in an effort to get drivers' attention, they put green plastic covers over them, but that didn't work either. People still regularly ran into the pole while we would see the photo of the aftermath wondering how anyone could do this.

There was a call to remove the poles so that drivers would stop hitting them, but their purpose is to guide drivers around them and block off areas that should not be driven in.

On Monday however, something happened that no one expected. The infamous pole got forcibly ripped out of the ground by a small backhoe.

Problem solved right? No more cars hitting the pole. Well, that was just the beginning.

After the pole was ripped out, a new pole was put in its place. This one goes back to the original yellow color and is much thinner than the original. It also serves as a stop sign too.

Enjoy this picture of the new pole all nice, shiny and clean, because my money is on it getting hit within a week. It may be smaller and might be able to be seen easier, but drivers haven't changed. If they can hit a big fat yellow pole, they can hit a skinny one too. At least, by the look of it, this pole will do far less damage. We'll have to wait and see.

Here's a hint kids, to those of you new to driving. Don't enter a parking lane on the left side. You don't do that on the road, right? So why do it in a parking lot? Enter on the right, like you're supposed to, and I can guarantee you will not hit any poles.

Let's take a trip back in time and take a look at some of the cars, or what's left of them, that hit the yellow pole:
