Safe Passage is a non-profit group that was founded in 1999 by Hanley Denning, a Yarmouth native who was moved into action after having witnessed the poverty faced by the community around the Guatemala City garbage dump. Over 300 families live in one of the largest open landfills in Central America.

Safe Passage provides comprehensive education, health and enrichment programs to nearly 500 students from the families; bringing them hope, improved health and education.

May 5th is their biggest fundraiser of the year and a true community event. Join us at Cumberland Center for the 5th Annual Safe Passage Maine 5K, Kids' Fun Run and family-friendly Fiesta with live music from Primo Cubano and delicious latin food.
