The Tallest Lighthouse in America is Now at Gillette Stadium
Lighthouses in New England are like palm trees in Florida. They just go together.
Think about it. Excluding the coastal states, no state NEEDS lighthouses.
Well move over, Nubble, cause there is a new lighthouse in New England.
Part of a new design at Gillette Stadium includes a 218-foot lighthouse – the tallest lighthouse in America.
Previously, the tallest lighthouse in America was the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in North Carolina, standing at 198 feet tall.
Now, the record-tallest one is coming to Massachusetts, specifically moving from the Outer Banks to Patriot Place.
The lighthouse is not just a structure and record, however. According to the Gillette Stadium website:
The Gillette Stadium Lighthouse was reimagined as part of our north end zone expansion project, bringing an iconic experiential feature to the stadium that fans of all ages can experience and enjoy...The 360-degree observation deck, known as the Lookout, provides spectacular panoramic views of the stadium and the surrounding area, including the Boston and Providence skylines. Admission is $5 for adults and children 10 and under are FREE (see below for admission details).
As of yesterday, October 1, 2023, the lighthouse is now open to the public!
Jen Ferron, the chief marketing officer of Kraft Sports + Entertainment, says "It is a unique experience that will surprise everyone who visits," according to an NBC Boston article. "The lookout is much higher than you'd expect, and the views are spectacular!"
According to NBC Boston, the lighthouse is open from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
It's also worth noting that the lighthouse is not open to the public during most ticketed events, including Patriots games, Revolution matches, concerts, and other large events.
