The Ugly Travelodge On The Portland/Westbrook Line Is Finally Being Replaced
One of the great eyesores in Portland, the Travelodge on the Westbrook town line, is finally being torn down. According to the Forecaster, the old, dilapidated hotel will be replaced with a modern Hampton Inn and Suites. The Denny's Restaurant located adjacent to the property will remain intact.
For the better part of a decade, the Travelodge has been one of the unfortunate first sights for many people entering Portland off of the Maine Turnpike. The hotel has been in the news multiple times due to drug related crimes and arrests. The new Hampton Inn and Suites being built there should be welcomed with open arms by both Portland and Westbrook residents.
The gas station that once inhabited the space in front of the Travelodge will be used as additional parking for the new hotel. Construction is expected to take much of 2018, with an opening date of early 2019 projected.
