Drive-In movie theaters in Maine made a comeback during the COVID-19 pandemic. Without the ability to go to an indoor movie theater, they were the best place we could all safely socially distance and still go out and enjoy a movie.

There aren't nearly as many drive-in theaters in Maine as there used to be. During their heyday from the 1950s to 1970s, you were never very far from a drive-in movie theater in Maine. By the 80s, with VCRs becoming commonplace in homes and surround sound giving moviegoers an immersive experience, drive-in theaters slowly started to close.

Many of them are gone today, but if you know where to look, you can still the remnants of an era gone by some hiding among what has taken over and others in plain sight.
