This Should Be Maine's Official Song for Cinco de Mayo

Happy Cinco De Mayo! Today we commemorate the Mexican army's victory over Napoleon III and the French forces during the French-Mexican War in 1862. It was the Battle of Puebla, and it might be nice to learn a little more it about it as you dig into your chips and guacamole today. Of course, Cinco de Mayo is not a big holiday in Mexico, but here in America, being the melting pot we are, we like to celebrate anything and everything.

We thought it would be nice to send along this song to you on May 5th. It's from the late, great Leon Russell. It's a sweet love song called "From Maine to Mexico."

Now, if you actually wanted to go from Mexico, Maine to Mexico City, Mexico, it would be quite a haul, but you could actually drive there. It's a bit over 3000 miles and would take you 48 hours non-stop.

To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.
