When talking about music venues in the state of Maine, two typically come to mind. The first is the massive outdoor venue in Bangor, the Maine Savings Pavilion. The other is the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland. Both venues host a wealth of concerts, plus many other events.

While these two facilities gain a lot of attention, there's another venue in the state that has slowly become one of the most popular spots to catch a show, especially when the weather is ideal. That venue is Thompson's Point in Portland.

Located just outside Portland's vibrant Downtown District, Thompson's Point was a long-forgotten industrial complex until about 15 years ago. That's when developers decided it would be a perfect spot to be Portland's next best entertainment center.

Since 2015, numerous major acts have hit the stage at Thompson's Point. From legends like Bob Dylan, Robert Plant, Mavis Staples, and Phil Lesh to more local acts like the Ghosts of Paul Revere, the stage has seen a smorgasbord of talent. The 2024 schedule is no exception, with another huge list of acts line up for this summer.

Kicking off this summer's schedule is a band who is no stranger to Portland or Thompson's Point. It's a band with a unique sound that perfectly fits the town's vibe. That band is Goose.

Formed 10 years ago in Connecticut, Goose has enjoyed a steady rise in the industry. The band is probably best described as progressive rock, with undertones of jam band, funk, and a hint of Americana. Honestly, the best word to describe them is "fun". At the end of the day, they are a very enjoyable and groovy listen.

Goose is led by singer and guitarist Rick Mitarotonda, a man who will blow your mind repeatedly during a concert with his guitar work. He has performed some of the best solos I have ever witnessed live, and I would put him right up there with the likes of Trey Anastasio and John Mayer.

Another highlight of seeing Goose live is watching the work of Peter Anspach, the highly-talented multi-instrumentalist. Anspach will be hammering away on the keys with a six-string on his back. Every once in a while, he will slide that guitar to the front and start picking away. And he does this while singing backups. It's precision at its finest

WBLM was actually lucky enough to catch up with Anspach as Goose gets ready to kick off its summer tour. Here is a link to this great interview, with the Blimp's legendary Captain guiding the interview ship.

Goose will be hitting Thompson's Point for two shows later this month, June 25 and 26. There are still limited tickets remaining. You can find out more information here. Trust me when I say you will most definitely be entertained if you hit the point for one or both of those shows. They are great players, the vibe is right, and the music is exceptional.

Thank God summer is back. And what a way for Thompson's Point to kick off the season.
