It's "Animal Day" on the calendar as we celebrate monkeys, a pig and a leopard and, yes, some of the spelling needs to be altered, but otherwise, nice 'n' goofy today...

12/2/1967 (48 years ago today) - The hot streak for The Monkees continued with their album "Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn And Jones, Ltd." hitting No. 1 on the U.S. album chart, making it the boys fourth consecutive LP to sell over a million copies (as did their self-titled debut, the follow-up "More Of The Monkees" and the classic "Headquarters" album). "Pisces..." was the release that featured "Pleasant Valley Sunday", "Star Collector" and the best version by far of Harry Nilsson's "Cuddly Toy". Probably their most solid LP, all catchy good stuff start-to-finish.

12/2/1976 (39 years ago today) - "Look! Up in the sky!": Today is Day One of the photo shoot for Pink Floyd's "Animals" album cover featuring that classic giant inflatable pig lashed between two of the Battersea Power Station's towers in London. A trained marksman was actually hired for the day, ready to fire and shoot down the inflatable if it were to escape, but it turns out he wasn't needed on this day. They should have brought him for Day Two, though; that's when the piggy broke free from its moorings and floated away. It eventually came down in Kent, England, recovered by a local farmer who was furious that it had "scared his cows". Yeah, wait till he hears the record...

12/2/1960 - Born on this date, let's say Happy Birthday to Def Leppard bassist/backing vocalist Rick Savage, 55 years old today. Wait a sec...when did the dudes in Def Leppard start hitting their mid-fifties?!?! What is this, "The Twilight Zone"???
