Elvis, The Stones, and The Prince of Darkness! But of course...

12/3/1955 (60 years ago today) - RCA Victor announces the debut vinyl of a newly signed artist that they promote as "The most talked about personality in recorded music in the last ten years" -- Elvis Presley. In reality the first two songs they release had been purchased from Sam Phillips and Sun Records for $5,000: then what happens is "Mystery Train" and "I Forgot To Remember To Forget" do not sell well...at all! The record label shifts gears and makes arrangements for Elvis to record all new material in the next month.

12/3/1968 (47 years ago today) - The Rolling Stones record "Brown Sugar" at Muscle Shoals studios, written mostly by Mick Jagger with his "secret girlfriend" Marsha Hunt in mind (Marsha is the mother of his first child Karis). And even with some reasonably scandalous topics covered in the song -- slavery, interracial sex, sadomasochism, lost virginity, rape and heroin, basic Stones stuff, right? -- the song is so damn catchy it still ends up at No. 1!

12/3/1948 - Born on this date, Happy Birthday to John Michael "Ozzy" Osbourne, 67 years old today. Between Black Sabbath and his solo career, it's estimated that the Oz has sold over 100 million records! Our beloved bat-biting friend shares the same birthday with "Born Free" crooner Andy Williams, so don't get too excited.
