Tommy’s Coffee Break Calendar for December 9th
12/9/2000 (19 years ago today) - You would have thought they'd been on already, but...: U2 make their first-ever appearance on NBC's "Saturday Night Live"; they perform "Beautiful Day" and "Elevation". Amen.
12/9/1932 - Born on this date, Amos Wells Blackmore Jr., a.k.a. the one and only blues-harmonica-master Junior Wells who, by age seven, was already known for his harp-playing abilities (true!). The 1950's found him recording Chicago blues classics like "Messin' With the Kid" and "It Hurts Me Too" -- By the 1960's and '70's, he was in high demand and worked with 'em all: Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Van Morrison, Carlos Santana, Bonnie Raitt, and The Rolling Stones -- Junior passed away in Chicago, January 15, 1998, after years of severe health problems including cancer and a heart attack; he was 63 years old.
