2/26/1965 (53 years ago today) - Over in Merry Olde England, before Led Zeppelin made him a force to be reckoned with, Jimmy Page released a single as a solo artist: "She Just Satisfies" was produced by Jimmy, who also did the lead vocal and played all the instruments except drums! Jimmy's girlfriend at the time was singer Jackie DeShannon, who encouraged him to move his career beyond work as a much-in-demand session musician -- These days Jimmy refers to the song as a "bit of a curio, tongue-in-cheek, and it's better forgotten". What do you think?...

2/26/1966 (52 years ago today) - There was quite a fuss at the time because no one of any significant artistic stature had ever released an album without putting their name on the cover!: Leave it to The Beatles to do so with "Rubber Soul" which quickly became their seventh No. 1 LP in a row on the Billboard chart. This was the record that marked a major turning point for the band -- from here-on-out, the decision was made: their future lies in the studio making full-length albums, not on stage where they (literally) couldn't even hear themselves sing anymore. The Fab Four's trajectory is now officially 100% unstoppable...

2/26/1928 - Born in New Orleans, Louisiana on this day, the truly remarkable Antoine "Fats" Domino, Jr. Did you know...?: that Fats had released five different million-copy selling singles before 1955! He hit The Top 40 no less than 35 times(!) with classics like "Ain't That A Shame", "Blueberry Hill", "Whole Lotta Loving", "I Want To Walk You Home", "You Always Hurt The One You Love", "Blue Monday", "I'm Walkin'', plus a fantastic cover of The Beatles' "Lady Madonna" (in 1968). A very warm and intensely congenial pioneer of rock's early boogie-woogie roots, Fats passed away from natural causes at his home in Harvey, Louisiana, last year on October 24th; he was 89 years old.
