1/4/1967 (50 years ago today) - We're here at the Bromwel Club in Bromley, England, for the first of what would turn out to be over 240 gigs(!) this year for The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Not shy, not afraid to put the work in, and, in fact, many of the concerts were two shows per night, a schedule that we think would totally exhaust today's precious vanilla popsters.

1/4/1967 (50 years ago today) - "Light My Fire", "Break On Through", "Soul Kitchen", "Back Door Man", "20th Century Fox", "Alabama Song (Whisky Bar)", "The End"...the debut album from The Doors is unleashed on this date; it is exceptional, extraordinary and still sounds fresh and nuanced and chilling a half-century later. Psychedelic rock/blues at its most pristine.

1/4/1975 (42 years ago today) - Elton John starts two weeks at No. 1 on the singles chart with his cover of "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds". We don't much care for this, even if it does feature John Lennon on guitar, it's the sound of Reggie dog-paddling his way to the bank.
