Guess who just graduated from high school? What band surpassed a Beatles achievement? Did anybody recognize the guy that was just here in the studio...?

6/05/1959 (56 years ago today) - Robert Alan Zimmerman graduates from high school in Hibbing, Minnesota; as a teen, Bob Dylan formed a few different rock bands while in school -- notoriously, at his high school talent show, Bob's band performed Danny & The Juniors' "Rock And Roll Is Here To Stay" where they were so loud, the principal cut the microphone. Bob's long sideburns and leather jacket led to his classmates referring to him as a "greaser". His high school yearbook carried the caption "Robert Zimmerman: to join 'Little Richard'".

6/05/1971 (44 years ago today) - Grand Funk Railroad smashed the record held by The Beatles when the Detroit hard-rock outfit sold out Shea Stadium in New York City in less than 72 hours! (So this is how/where the stadium trend began?!?!)

6/05/1975 (40 years ago today) - While Pink Floyd were recording material for what would turn out to be the "Wish You Were Here" album, original founding member Syd Barrett mysteriously turned up at Abbey Road studios, literally from out of nowhere! Weirdly, it was while the band was listening to a playback of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" (which happened to be about Barrett) that Syd strolled in. By this time, however, the 29-year-old had shaved off all his hair (including his eyebrows), and was so massively overweight that not one of his ex-bandmates recognized him. Syd leaves without saying goodbye; the remaining members of Pink Floyd never see him again.
