6/9/1964 (56 years ago today) - It's the first session for rolling the tape machines on what would become the classic album "Another Side Of Bob Dylan" -- Bob records "Mr. Tambourine Man" this evening at New York City's Columbia Recording Studios, along with fourteen other original compositions including {are you ready?} "It Ain't Me Babe", "My Back Pages", "All I Really Want To Do" and "Chimes Of Freedom", so a fairly unbelievable night then... -- One year from now The Byrds will reach No. 1 on the U.S. and U.K. singles charts with their version of "Tambourine Man" and the floodgates open, never to be closed again...

6/9/1972 (48 years ago today) - The fact is, no one had ever done this before...: Elvis Presley makes entertainment history by performing four sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden in N.Y.C. -- Incidentally, if you look around and check out the audience, you'll spot George Harrison, John Lennon, David Bowie, Art Garfunkel and Bob Dylan -- The shows were promoted as Elvis' first Big Apple concerts since the 1950's with the subsequent concert album, "Elvis At Madison Square Garden" (released just one week after the shows took place) earning sales of over three million, thus ranking it as the best-selling live album in The King's catalog. We love Elvis, just sayin'...

6/9/1950 - From the "Props-and-a-Salute" Dept.: Born on this day, Trevor Boulder, most affectionately remembered as David Bowie's bassist in the classic Spiders From Mars line-up -- Trevor appeared on the definitive run of of Bowie albums early on, including "Hunky Dory" (1971), "The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust..." (1972), "Aladdin Sane" and "Pin-Ups" (both from 1973) -- He joined Uriah Heep in 1976, replacing the very well-respected John Wetton (of King Crimson-Roxy Music-Asia fame), but on May 21, 2013, passed away from cancer at age 62.
