3/16/1964 (56 years ago today) - A new record for advance sales for a single is set today -- The vinyl hasn't even been pressed yet, and "Can't Buy Me Love" by The Beatles has orders of 2,100,000 waiting. Seriously, that's somewhat unreal for the days when you had to leave the house and go to the record store to get your music...

3/16/1970 (50 years ago today) - 24 year old Motown singer Tammi Terrell passes away from a brain tumor; she had first collapsed onstage into Marvin Gaye's arms during a performance in Hampton, Virginia a couple of years earlier and never really fully recuperated -- Tami started out as a solo artist, but her biggest hits on the charts were her duets with Marvin"Ain't No Mountain High Enough", "You're All I Need To Get By" and the 1968 classic "Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing". So distraught by her early death, Marvin went into self-isolation; he didn't record or perform for the next four years...

3/16/1996 (24 years ago today) - In Buenos Aires, Argentina, The Ramones perform what they would claim to be their last ever show (or was it?).
