3/24/1958 (62 years ago today) - At 6:35 am, Elvis Presley reports to the draft board in Memphis, Tennessee -- Along with twelve other recruits, a bus then takes them to Kennedy Veterans Memorial Hospital; it is there that Elvis is formally assigned his Army serial number: 53310761.

3/24/1973 (47 years ago today) - From the "You can't make this stuff up!" Dept.: During his concert in Buffalo, New York, Lou Reed is more than surprised when a fan jumps onstage and proceeds to bite him...on his fanny! The toothsome numb-nut gets thrown out of theatre by security; Lou finishes the show.

3/24/1949 - Happy Birthday to one of our favorite British cult-heroes, singer-songwriter-producer Nick Lowe, 71 years old today -- Probably best known in the States for producing a lot of Elvis Costello's early work (Nick wrote the classic "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love And Understanding") as well as writing and performing with legendary outfit Rockpile (with Dave Edmunds) and a hefty batch of super-catchy-clever solo stuff ("Cruel To Be Kind", "I Knew The Bride (When She Used To Rock And Roll)", "So It Goes"). Highly recommended 5-star Nick Lowe albums for your listening enjoyment: 1978's "Jesus Of Cool",  1980's "Seconds Of Pleasure" (with Rockpile) and 1998's "Dig My Mood". You're gonna love this guy, we promise!
