3/2/1955 (61 years ago today) - It goes on to inspire a-hundred-thousand-rockers-to-be: Bo Diddley completes his first studio recording in Chicago at the legendary Universal Recording studios -- his self-titled classic single "Bo Diddley" gets done in just a couple of takes; it will hit No. 1 on the R&B chart by the start of summer. Infectious like crazy...

3/2/1974 (42 years ago today) - It was impossible to avoid, and not very pleasing: Terry Jacks kicks off the first of three-weeks-in-a-row at No. 1 on the Billboard singles chart with a song that was originally written in French by Jacques Brel (so there's enough blame to go around) -- seemed like every time you turned the radio on...there it was: "Seasons In The Sun", a superlative one-hit wonder of sugary annoyance if there ever was one. Hey, if WE hadda listen to it, then YOU gotta listen to it...

3/2/1983 (33 years ago today) - ...and supposedly they won't skip or cue-scratch: A new hi-falootin' digital audio gizmo is unleashed on an unsuspecting world -- how were we to know it would lead to purchasing and re-purchasing and re-purchasing (some more) of the same ol' classic catalog stuff? Thank you Sony, Philips and Polygram for turning us on to the five-inch compact disc -- it's shiny and silvery and can hold up to one hour of uninterrupted music that you never have to get up and flip over! We will regret this one day...
