11/27/1942 - Born on this date in Seattle, Washington, James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix -- Not only one of the most celebrated musicians of the 20th century, but quite arguably the most influential electric guitarist in the history of popular music. After releasing just three proper studio albums in 1967 and '68, Jimi passed on at age 27 in 1970. What he left behind still amazes the world today, a truly pioneering sound, using his guitar to create a soulful, fluid vocabulary out of feedback and distortion and making it every bit as beautiful and personal as the blues he loved growing up with. Completely, totally unique and without precedent, Jimi was the definition of untouchable genius...Three proof positive pieces right here:
