10/1/1966 (52 years ago today) - Eric Clapton notoriously quipped "You never told me he was this good!": Jimi Hendrix appeared live for the first time in England on this date when he did a little jamming onstage with Cream -- His 'official' debut with The Jimi Hendrix Experience wouldn't take place until a month from now when the band takes over the legendary Bag O'Nails Club in London and ***whacko-ka-boom-boom!!!***  the "rules" on what a human can do with a guitar are obliterated forevermore...

10/1/1982 (36 years ago today) - He's dropped the "Johnny" and is now simply known as John Cougar; the artist soon to be recognized as John Mellencamp owns the No. 1 spots on both the album and singles charts on this date: "Jack and Diane", in fact, was the record's second chart-topping single ("Hurts So Good" went No. 1 a few weeks earlier) and "American Fool" is not only the No. 1 LP, but it will end up being the best selling album of the entire year of 1982! Quite a feat, no wonder it's still on yer radio today...

10/1/1935 - Honestly, we just couldn't properly hold our heads up for the rest of the day without a sincere Happy Birthday wish to singer/actress/dancer/author and star of "Mary Poppins" and "The Sound Of Music", neither of which can we imagine having grown up without: the one and only Julie Andrews is 83 years old today.
