The first group to do this wasn't The Beatles! -- Nine and nine for The Stones! -- Art-rocker birthday gives us another excuse to bring up 10cc's legacy...

9/19/1960 (46 years ago today) - Hank Ballard And The Midnighters have the honor of becoming the first recording act to score three songs in the U.S. Top 100 at the same time: "Finger Poppin' Time", "Let's Go, Let's Go, Let's Go" and "The Twist" all made the Top 30! Weirdly, Ballard's refusal to perform "The Twist" on TV led to Chubby Checker picking up the song (thanks to American Bandstand host Dick Clark); Checker's version rockets to the No. 1 spot on the singles chart this very week in 1960 as well!

9/19/1981 (35 years ago today) - Their ninth studio album starts a nine week run at No. 1: The Rolling Stones' "Tattoo You" tops the chart, one of the most consistently energized releases of their career -- just about perfect from start-to-finish, with Side One boasting riff-heavy rockers ("Start Me Up", "Neighbors", "Hang Fire") and Side Two made up of some their best-ever nearly-effortless ballads ("Worried About You", "No Use In Crying", "Waiting On A Friend"). Near the top of the list of Stones must-have's...

9/19/1947 - Happy Birthday to one of the founding members of the incredibly talented (and ludicrously under-appreciated) art-rock outfit 10cc, singer-songwriter-producer-engineer-and-multi-instrumentalist Lol Creme, 69 years old today. In fact, all four members of 10cc were *see-previous-description*, masters of studio craft serving up super-catchy-pop but with extremely non-traditional lyrics and (occasionally) rather unnerving story-telling. If you've never heard the albums "How Dare You!" (1976) and "The Original Soundtrack" (1975), you're missing out on some of the '70's most brilliant, entertaining music. These guys were great fun, really smart...
