9/1/1956 (64 years ago today) - Once again, where's that time machine when ya need it?: A 19 year old Jerry Lee Lewis pops into Sun Studios in Memphis looking to audition for owner Sam Philips. Turns out, Sam's on vacation in Florida, but they let the kid record a few demo's anyway...maybe Sam will check 'em out upon his return. And, roll tape...

9/1/1966 (54 years ago today) - At the time, nobody in America cared about this one at all: The Who single "I'm A Boy" enters the U.K. chart, peaking at No. 2 a few weeks later (it's the band's second No. 2 hit, the first one being "My Generation"!). Pete Townshend was already ahead of the game here -- This particular track was going to be featured in a rock opera he was working on called "Quads", which was set in a future world where parents would be able to choose the sex of their children -- Remember, this is about three years before "Tommy"...

9/1/1933 - A for real/genuine American Country & Western music icon was born on this date: Harold Lloyd Jenkins would go on to become famous world wide with the unforgettable recording name of Conway Twitty -- Even if yer not a C&W fan, you know his stuff: "It's Only Make Believe" (which would sell over 4 million copies in 1958, a rather astounding achievement back then), "Hello Darlin'", "Danny Boy", and a string of country No. 1's with partner Loretta Lynn including "After The Fire Is Gone" and "Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man" -- In true country style, Conway was married four times to three different women; in June of 1993, he died from an aneurysm on his tour bus, age 59.
