Two Small Earthquakes Rattle Jonesboro Maine Area
Two small earthquakes happened around the small town of Jonesboro in Washington County yesterday. Folks living in the immediate area may or may not have felt them.
One happened at 6:19 Wednesday morning approximately 1.25 miles from the center of town, and then the other followed at 10:45 a.m. in the same approximate area. Both were small earthquakes according to the United States Geological Survey, with the first registered at 2.2 magnitude and the second at 1.7. The bigger of the two was registered a little over 6 miles beneath the earth's surface.
These are now earthquakes #2 and #3 for the year here in Maine, with the first happening 11 days ago on Sunday, January 17th, in Centerville, which is about 7.5 miles away from Jonesboro. That was a 2.8 magnitude earthquake that happened at 1:37 p.m.
