Walmart in Sanford, Maine Closing For a Day and a Half For Sanitation Due to COVID-19 Concerns
Maine Hot Spot
The state of Maine is seeing a rapid increase in the number of COVID-19 cases as of late largely due to the delta variant.
Maine is now considered to be a national hot spot according to the Portland Press Herald. Maine has the 4th highest number of new cases per capita over the last week.
Walmart Closing
One Walmart in York County has decided to try to get ahead of the spread by closing their doors for sanitation and restocking.
Walmart in Sanford closed at 2pm on Tuesday and will remain closed until 6am Thursday morning according to WGME.
With Walmart being considered to be an essential business coupled with the holiday season, they have seen an increased number of customers and are having trouble keeping up with stocking shelves.
The Sanford Walmart will have a third party come in to sanitize the store while essential items get restocked.
While the store will be closed the pharmacy will remain open for curbside service during normal business hours.
The closest Walmart locations outside of Sanford are Biddeford, Maine, and Rochester, New Hampshire.
