As a kid, I spent many summers on Southport Island at a cottage built by my great-grandfather on Dogfish Head. I was perfectly fine spending my time picking blueberries on the granite or building sandcastles in my little cove. But things always got way cooler when I would board the Argo in Boothbay Harbor and head to Monhegan Island. It is one the most enchanting places in Maine and has attracted artists from all over as an inspiring setting to create. Not only is it a beautiful place to sketch and paint, now apparently it is a very effective location to launch a message in a bottle.

14-year-old Terra Gallo is from Cumberland and she visited her aunt on Monhegan three years ago with her sister. While there, they sent messages in green bottles out into the deep blue sea. Recently, she received a fisherman's letter from Spain. Wicked cool!
