A Mainer played hist first game in the NHL last night!

19-year-old Oliver Wahlstrom, who went to North Yarmouth Academy, played his first game NHL game as a New York Islander. Oliver was picked last year in the NHL draft after a year at BC.

Oliver had been a member of the AHL Bridgeport Sound Tigers but called up last night to the big show!

Now, one really cool tradition is that a player playing his first NHL game gets a solo lap on the ice before the entire team comes out for warm-ups.

Check out Oliver's first time on the ice...it's pretty cool and his friends and family back in Maine must have been wicked proud!

The Islanders went on to win in OT. After the game, Islanders Coach Barry Trotz ( ex-Portland Pirates Coach) gave his assessment of Oliver's first game.
