Maybe some of us got lulled into a false sense of security with the warm weather, but winter isn't leaving without giving us a big kiss good bye! Many of us have propane tanks, and it's time for a reminder about safety. I actually came home a few weeks ago and my garage was filled with it. I freaked! My brother and Mark had been using a heater hooked up to the propane tank that we use for the grill. Somehow the hose got a puncture. I dragged it to the end of the backyard and aired out the garage. Another time the cap had to be replaced on the big one that fires up our stove. No matter what the weather, safety bears repeating.

If you smell gas inside or outside of your home:

  • Don't create any sparks! That means not operating any electronics, appliances, even phones. And of course, no open flames.
  • Leave immediately and get everyone out of the area.
  • Shut off the gas at the valve on your propane tank,. Remember, righty=tighty!
  • Call your gas company or 911 to have someone determine that it's safe before going back to that area.
  • Never use a stove as a heat source and never use an outdoor heater indoors.

Snuggle up and keep warm during our cold snap!
