Wendy’s in Scarborough, Maine, Has Permanently Closed
There have been a lot of comings and goings in the world of restaurants in Maine over the last couple of years. Most of that is smaller restaurants that have had to close their doors due to the effects of the pandemic, or an employee shortage that has left business owners stretched thin. While the critical effect on small businesses has been noticeable, the same effects have been less noticeable on chain restaurants. Very few chain locations have closed in Maine as they somehow continue to manage the turbulent waters of a workforce shortage. But that doesn't seem to be the case for the Wendy's location on Route 1 in Scarborough, as they have officially closed for good.
Over the last 6 months, there have been several stops and starts at this Wendy's. Worker shortages have forced the restaurant to abruptly close, and the quality of service was clearly affected on days the fast food chain was open, according to some negative reviews left on Google. Whether or not the employee shortages was the sole determining factor in closing the restaurant is unknown. The Wendy's location has changed their Google Business listing to "permanently closed".
That will leave behind some prime real estate for another restaurant or business to move in. Given that the property is already fitted with a drive-thru, it makes sense that it would be another fast food restaurant or business that would utilize that feature. The only other fast food restaurant nearby is McDonald's, leaving plenty of traffic on Route 1 looking for additional options.
