Do you remember being a kid and pretending you were a firefighter rushing off in your bright red fire truck with the lights and sirens blaring to put out a fire? Fun times right? Well if you've got the money, you can put a bid in on a real fire truck up for auction in Maine.

The Town of Alfred is putting a 1995 Freightliner FLD70 on the auction block and taking bids from the public. It uses a Cummings diesel engine and a 1,000 gallon tank, which I assume is for water, not fuel.

The nearly 28-year-old truck has 46,409 miles on it. That sounds like low mileage, but when you think about it, these trucks aren't on the road every single day. If my math skills are correct, that averages out to about 1600 miles a year. I can do that in a week easily!

Nearly three decades in service does take its toll, though. The good news is it starts, it's inspected you can drive it away if you win the auction. Actually, you'll HAVE to drive it away because they won't deliver.

The bad news is It does need some bodywork, but if you're willing to put in a little extra effort, you'll be good to go.

As of this writing, there have been 42 bids with the highest at $99,000.

If you win the auction and are not a legal operational or private or commercial fire department, the lights and siren will have to be deactivated. It's likely the seller will have already done that for you.

So much for the childhood dream of driving a fire truck with lights and sirens blaring.
