‘The Colbert Report’ Replacement: ‘Daily Show’s Larry Wilmore to Host ‘The Minority Report’

Colbert Report Replacement Larry Wilmore Minority Report
Comedy Central

The announcement that Stephen Colbert would succeed David Letterman as host of CBS’ ‘Late Show‘ not only shook up the late-night landscape, it also left us wondering how Comedy Central might follow ‘The Daily Show‘ after ‘The Colbert Report‘ came to an end. It seems we now know, as ‘The Daily Show”s “Senior Black Correspondent’ Larry Wilmore will replace ‘The Colbert Report’ with his own series, aptly titled ‘The Minority Report.’

Premiering in January behind ‘The Daily Show,’ ‘The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore’ pays a bit of homage to ‘The Colbert Report’ with its “soft T” title, but likely won’t share all that much in common with its predecessor. For his part, 52-year-old writer-actor Wilmore has been with Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show’ as its “Senior Black Correspondent” since 2006.

Says Comedy Central of the announcement:

We are thrilled to be expanding our relationship with Jon Stewart and Busboy Productions, and are looking forward to the world getting to know Larry Wilmore even better. He’s a spectacular talent in front of and behind the camera. The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore follows in the Comedy Central tradition – bringing new perspectives to the day’s events and breaking ground in the world of late night television.

So too adds Wilmore himself, noting the move from LA to New York City:

I’m beyond excited to have this chance to continue my relationships with Comedy Central and the brilliant Jon Stewart. I love the city of New York and promise to only wear my Laker t-shirts when I’m layering.

So, what do we think? Will ‘The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore’ fill the Stephen Colbert-shaped hole in our hearts? Watch some highlights below, and give us your thoughts in the comments!
