Sweet Comeback: Maine’s Beloved Gifford’s Ice Cream Returning to Shelves After Devastating Fire

It's been a long wait since a fire destroyed the Gifford's Ice Cream plant in Skowhegan, Maine. Back in February, the accidental fire caused a cease in production of the Maine-made ice cream that is served at ice cream stands and sold in grocery stores across the state.

Shelves became empty while the rebuilding began and they partnered with other companies to help with production. But getting quarts of ice cream back on the shelves takes time. However, Gifford's announced that they have hit a significant milestone.

Gifford's announced in a recent Facebook post that quarts of ice cream will be slowly making their way back into the freezer section of your grocery store, but it will take time to get all the flavors you love in stock.

It will start with a few select flavors hitting shelves as they ramp up production. They're also working with other production companies, but it takes a little while to get the recipe right when manufacturing for the first time, so some flavors might taste slightly different, but they'll zero in on it with a little time.

Some flavors won't be available until production at Gifford's plant is back to full speed.

I don't care how long it takes for Giffrord's to get all the flavors back into production. I'm willing to wait to get a quart of Gifford's amazing Peanut Butter Pie. I don't know how they make that taste so good, but there isn't another flavor of ice cream in this world that compares to it.
