4/7/1966 (51 years ago today) - Just another afternoon at London's Abbey Road Studios: The Beatles record overdubs for a new John Lennon song titled "Tomorrow Never Knows", as well as working on Paul McCartney's latest effort "Got To Get You Into My Life". The tracks are scheduled to appear on their forthcoming seventh studio album which they have yet to come up with a title for -- Ringo suggested "After Geography", a riff on the name of The Rolling Stones just released "Aftermath" LP. When it's time to unleash their latest, the boys decide to call it "Revolver"...

4/7/1979 (38 years ago today) - Finally, with studio album release No. 8, The Doobie Brothers get to No. 1 on the LP chart with the slickly masterful classic "Minute By Minute" -- Substituting Michael McDonald's soulful keyboard style for the old "China Grove" power chord approach paid off big time: the album won four Grammys, featured four Top 40 radio hits (including the No. 1 single "What A Fool Believes") and sold in the millions! Weird fact?: Michael Jackson contributed backing vocals on "What A Fool Believes", "Here To Love You" and the title track, but he wasn't credited on the album...Mmmmm, excellent rumor, never verified though...

4/7/1943 - Happy Birthday to underrated rock guitarist Mick Abrahams, 74 years old today -- Played scorching riffs for U.K. cult faves Blodwyn Pig, as well as leaving his mark on "This Was", the blues-jazz-psychedelic-fusion debut album from Jethro Tull, which, if you haven't listened to recently, is a freakin' revelation: for 1968, it was way way w-a-a-a-y ahead of its time, worth going back to for sure!
