A pair of classic British bands share a live debut anniversary, and one of the 1980's most successful albums is released (it's a super-biggie, kids!)...

8/18/1962 (54 years ago today) - Ringo Starr has a mere two hours to prepare for it, but it's full-steam ahead as he makes his live debut with the soon-to-be-famous Fab Four at the Horticultural Society's 17th Annual Dance in Birkenhead, England. Historic indeed: this is the very first appearance anywhere of the act the world would soon come to know as The Beatles, and even at this point, the buzz was on for John, Paul, George and Ringo -- the hall's capacity was expanded for the gig from 450 to 500 people.

8/18/1977 (39 years ago today) - The extra-ryhthm guitarist had quit, so this date marks the first live show for The Police as an official three-piece when they play at Rebecca's in Birmingham, England. World domination has to start somewhere...

8/18/1986 (30 years ago today) - It goes on to sell more than 28 million copies worldwide {you might wanna read that again!}: Bon Jovi release their third studio album "Slippery When Wet" and what follows is best described as KA-BOOM!!! The record is an instantaneous smasheroo, spending eight weeks at the No. 1 spot on its way to becoming THE best selling album of 1987 (it's remains the band's pinnacle achievement to date with over 12 million purchased in the U.S. alone!). Suck it up: "You Give Love A Bad Name", "Livin' On A Prayer" and "Wanted Dead Or Alive" are never going away.
