12/5/1967 (49 years ago today) - Glasgow, Scotland: It's the final night of a 16-date U.K. package tour (two shows per night, 6:15 and 8:45 pm) featuring The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Pink Floyd, The Move, The Nice (featuring Keith Emerson) and three other bands. It took this long, but it finally happens -- the management of the venue closes the curtains on The Experience (while they're playing!) because they regarded Hendrix' movements with his guitar as having "blatantly sexual overtones". Encore!!!

12/5/1973 (43 years ago today) - Paul McCartney releases "Band On The Run", as near to perfect as an LP can get -- not one wasted track, not one little bit of filler -- absolutely solid work from Paul (arguably) at the height of his powers. "Jet", "Helen Wheels" and the title track were the big hit singles, but it's the songs in between that stand out like the best of his Beatles work: "Let Me Roll It", "Mrs. Vandebilt", "Mamunia", "Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five". Yeah, a must-have album, there's no question about it.

12/5/1932 - Happy Birthday Richard Penniman, the fantastic Little Richard, 84 years old today! Part of The Holy Trinity of The Founding Fathers of Rock and Roll (Elvis and Chuck Berry, that's who). A brief list of Richard's original compositions is all the proof you need -- "Ready Teddy", "Slippin' And Slidin'", "Good Golly, Miss Molly", "Lucile", "Rip It Up", "Long Tall Sally" -- "A-Wop-Bom-A-Loo-Mop-A-Lomp-Bom-Bom!", thank you and good night!!!
