7/06/1963 (52 years ago today) - James Brown went to Number Two on the U.S. album chart with the ultra-classic "Live At The Apollo" LP. The Godfather Of Soul used his own money to get the deal done, and it paid off big-time! Recorded on the night of October 24, 1962, it spent a total of 66 weeks on the Billboard Album chart, and occupies the No. 24 spot on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums Of All-Time. A must-have for fans of live concert recordings, it's a scorcher!!!

7/06/1967 (48 years ago today) - Pink Floyd make their U.K. television debut on the BBC show "Top Of The Pops" by performing their latest single, Syd Barrett's mind-bending "See Emily Play". The original broadcast footage was "lost in the vaults" for 33 years; a reasonably damaged home video of the performance ended up being salvaged by the British Film Institute in London back in January, 2010, and shown at an event called "Missing Believed Wiped", which was devoted to recovering lost and forgotten TV shows. Wicked!!!

7/06/1925 - Born on this day, William John Clifton Haley, a.k.a. Bill Haley, singer and guitarist and often referred to as "The First Rock 'N' Roll Star". Most significantly, as Bill Haley And His Comets, it was "Rock Around The Clock" that hit Number One in America and England, with the bands live performances generating absolute-teenage-hysteria!!! Fact: it really was Haley that brought rock and roll to the attention of white America as well as the rest of the world, and it's estimated he sold around 60 million records over the course of his career. Bill passed away on February 9th, 1981. Lotta great stuff to party to, no question...
