6/10/1972 (44 years ago today) - You spend your life building up a hard-workin'-show-biz heritage, and then...this: Sammy Davis Jr. starts three weeks at No. 1 with the single "Candy Man", taken from the film "Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory" starring Gene Wilder. Hey, Sammy, what's that sound? It's years and years and years of back-breaking showmanship going down the toilet...

6/10/1982 (34 years ago today) - Founding member of The Shirelles, vocalist Addie "Micki" Harris, died of a heart attack after a show in Atlanta; she was only 42. The Shirelles made history with "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" as the very first all-female group of the rock era to go to No. 1 on the charts. Their classic singles "Tonight's The Night" and "Will You..." were picked by Rolling Stone for its list of the greatest songs of all time; The Beatles famously covered "Baby It's You". 6/10/1910 - Born on this day, legendary blues artist Chester Burnett, a.k.a. Howlin' Wolf. His influence on rock and roll is undeniable and deep, with many of his compositions evolving into classic rock staples -- "Smokestack Lightnin'" (The Yardbirds), "Back Door Man" (The Doors), "Spoonful" (Cream), "I Ain't Superstitious" (Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart), "Little Red Rooster" (The Rolling Stones), "Goin' Down Slow" (The Pointer Sisters), "Wang Dang Doodle" (Savoy Brown), "Killing Floor" (Eric Clapton)...Get it? Got it? Good! Chester passed away from cancer on January 10th, 1976, at age 65.
