5/18/1966 (50 years ago today) - During his 1966 world tour, Bob Dylan and Robbie Robertson from The Band were filmed singing several songs in their Glasgow, Scotland hotel room, with the footage ending up in a project called "Eat The Document", which was originally commissioned for the ABC-TV series Stage '66. Dylan insisted on editing the film himself; the end result was, of course, rejected by the ABC corporate mucky-mucks who called it "incomprehensible for a mainstream audience". High-five's to Zimmy!!!

5/18/1967 (49 years ago today) - Oh, to have been a 'fly on the wall': John Lennon and Paul McCartney add backing vocals to The Rolling Stones latest track, "We Love You", during a session at London's Olympic Studios. Come on now!!!

5/18/1911 - Joseph Vernon Turner was born in Kansas City on this date and he became known as Big Joe Turner, the brawny-voiced "Boss of the Blues". Joe was a pioneer, one of the very first to fuse R&B with boogie-woogie, resulting in a sound called "jump blues", a style that presaged the birth of rock and roll! His original version of "Shake, Rattle And Roll" (Atlantic Records, 1954) remains a cornerstone of the then-forthcoming rock and roll revolution. "Chains Of Love", "Honey Hush" (famously covered by Foghat and Paul McCartney), "Flip, Flop And Fly", "Corrine, Corinna", "Lipstick, Powder And Paint" -- Good Lord, kids, you GOT to have the compilation "Joe Turner - His Greatest Recordings" (1971, Atco Records), it will blow your minds, utterly fantastic party stuff, some of the best ever. Big Joe passed away from heart failure in November 1985 at age 74; inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1987.
