CCR never got one -- Janis was a real one -- Queen's biggest one...

10/4/1969 (49 years ago today) - Creedence Clearwater Revival score their first No. 1 LP when "Green River" starts four weeks at the top. And now, from the 'Strange, But True' Dept.: CCR never (ever) had a No. 1 single!!! Also interesting is the fact that Janis remains one of the best selling artists in the U.S.: her catalog still moves quite steadily even these days, with currently over 16 million albums sold in America alone! She was the real deal, no doubt...

10/4/1980 (38 years ago today) - Queen start three weeks at No. 1 on the U.S. singles chart with "Another Bites The Dust", which was written by bassist John Deacon (not by singer Freddie Mercury) -- Cool stats that "Bohemian Rhapsody" couldn't match: "Dust" was the longest-running Top Ten single of 1980 (including thirteen weeks in the Top Five!), spending 31 weeks total on the chart (more than any other song of the year!); it also reached No. 2 on the Hot Soul Singles and Disco Top 100 charts! After attending a Queen concert in L.A., it was none other than Michael Jackson who suggested to Freddie that the band should release the track as a single...
